A few ideas for jobs that can be easily found. -The Star/ANN
Every month you sit at home without something to do, your employability appeal drops a few points lower.
So here are some suggestions of jobs you can easily find to make good use of your time. Promoters You have to admit that it takes courage and persuasion to hand out brochures and get people to listen to you, which hones your communication skills. Jack Lee, who hires promoters for clients like Celcom, says he pays his promoters based on how many 'sales' they make. 'It's RM30 for every form the customer fills up, so they're not actually selling anything,' he says. 'They easily make RM1,400 or more a month. Most promoters in Kuala Lumpur are paid RM100 to RM120 a day.' Tutors Parents are willing to pay for education- hence tutoring is always a great option. A check with an online tuition agency revealed that tutors with one to three years' experience charge about RM35 per hour for any academic subject. Piano teacher Clarissa Chan reveals that if you're teaching beginners, you can charge RM80 to RM100 per session of 45 minutes. The higher the grade, the higher the fee. Food and beverage personnel You can't go wrong with food and beverage, as it meets the basic needs of humans. Logan Sivanesan, Chief Operations Officer of Sid's Pubs, reveals that 'what really counts is experience and the willingness to learn' in order to work in this industry. People may think a bartender's or waiter's job is easy, but he says these jobs require skill and patience. Salary, in general, is from RM1000 upwards'and that's not including tips. Food stall owners 'You don't need a masters degree to flip burgers. What it does require is hours of labour and being patient with people,' says Razif, who runs a Ramli burger stall in Kuala Lumpur. 'If I work consistently every night, I can rake in over RM2,000 a month. Weekend nights are best for business, people want cheap food after spending money on their night out on town. ' The best thing about his job, he says, is he is his own boss. Online boutique entrepreneurs If you have a small capital and some business acumen, setting up an online boutique is not that hard at all. 'Initially, I started the store because I realised that my friends and I were hard pressed to find nice clothes that were in our sizes. I knew then that there was a market of girls who can't find plus size clothes in many stores,' says recent graduate Fong Jiar Hwei runs the online boutique, Trendy Confessions. Retail assistants Crystal Jessica Clark, a talent scout, says being a frontline sales staff is not about standing around looking pretty for customers. 'Of course, you need to look presentable, but communication skills are extremely important because that's how you clinch the sale. Customer relations is key. If you can speak more than two languages fluently, consider yourself hired!' Basic pay ranges from RM1,400 to RM3,000 - and that's not counting the commission you make with each sale or overtime hours. |
