Is Zoe Tay volunteering at Nanyang Primary School so that her son will have a better chance of acquiring a place there when he comes of age?
The well-known actress' son, Brayden, is currently five years old.
Chinese paper Shin Min Daily News spoke to the school's principal, Mdm Heng Boey Hong, who confirmed that the actress did indeed approach the school offering to volunteer her time there.
Mdm Heng told the Shin Min that they "discussed areas in which Zoe can co-operate with the school", but declined to give details.
The principal did say, however, that since Zoe is an actress, they might also work towards letting the celebrity put her acting skills to use.
Other parents who volunteer their time at Nanyang Primary are usually assigned tasks such as directing traffic, helping the school office with administration work or being volunteer librarians, she said.
"The Ministry of Education usually recommends parents volunteer 40 hours of their time at the schools they wish their children to attend," Mdm Heng told Shin Min, "But as Nanyang Primary is popular among parents, the school requires all parents to volunteer 80 hours of their time instead."
However, the Zoe's manager has denied that the celebrity actress had made any such arrangement with the school.
"Zoe is busy with her filming schedule, and she will not have time to be a school volunteer," she said.
