KARACHI (Pakistan) - AT LEAST 11 people were killed and 40 others injured when two buses collided head-on in southern Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.

The accident occurred in the Raees Goth area, 19 kilometres north of Karachi, capital of Sindh province.

Police said the driver of one of the buses lost control after overtaking another vehicle and ploughed into a bus coming from the opposite direction.

'Both the buses plunged into a ravine after colliding with each other, killing 11 passengers and injuring 40 others,' said Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmad.

Pakistan has the world's third-highest death rate from traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads and reckless driving. -- AFP
