KUALA LUMPUR - Yet another Malaysian is languishing in jail in China, held on charges of drug possession.

Nong Yen Yen, 33, was arrested on May 20 together with an unidentified woman after police at Shanghai's Pudong Airport discovered methamphetamine in her bag.

According to information obtained through Wisma Putra, this was her third flight to China from Cambodia.

Her parents only found out about her movements when informed of her arrest by Malaysian police on May 29.

Nong, who had been working as a seamstress in Johor Baru for a number of years, rarely visited her parents, who live in Segamat. She last saw her family last month.

Her parents have no idea who their daughter mixes with but are convinced she has been made use of by a drug syndicate.

According to her father, Nong, who left school in Form Three, was guillible and easily influenced.

"She does not have the intelligence nor the money to do this sort of thing" he told a press conference at Wisma MCA yesterday.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Michael Chong was providing the couple with legal advice and arranging for them to see their daughter.

If convicted, Nong faces life imprisonment or the death penalty.

Chong urged young women to not fall prey to drug syndicates' deceitful promises of lucrative incentives.
