Japanese stocks fall, banks under pressure

TOKYO - Japanese stocks fell on Tuesday, tracking falls on Wall Street, which was hit by fears of stagflation amid a housing slump and surging prices.

Bank shares such as Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group were under selling pressure on lingering credit concerns.

As of 8.01am, the benchmark Nikkei was down 1 per cent at 15,099.20 and the broader Topix also fell 1 per cent to 1,457.63. -- REUTERS
