A DOCTOR has been suspended from practice for three months and censured by Singapore's medical watchdog for lax prescrption of sedatives to his patients.

But the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) did not fine Dr Fong Kok Weng - which is the usual imposition for such misconduct cases - because of the GP's strong public service record and testimonials from his patients and professional colleagues.

He had also voluntarily ceased his private practice at Cambridge Medical Centre at Block 302 Woodlands Street 31, said the SMC in a statement on Tuesday.
