IMAGINE an SBS Transit bus jumping over a gap in the Benjamin Sheares flyover. As actor Keanu Reeves would say: Whoa.

Director Jan de Bont made the bus scene happen in the movie Speed (1994).

And he is set to direct Point Break 2, an action thriller set partly here and in other parts of Asia. So viewers could soon see spills and thrills, jumps and crashes set against familiar Singapore landmarks.

He was in town last week to scout for locations and told Life! over a lime juice in a Pagoda Street cafe that he had been struck by settings such as the Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant (the harbour view makes a 'spectacular' backdrop, he says) and the Singapore Flyer, where he thinks he will have the stars do a parachute jump.

The 65-year-old director of such box-office hits as Twister (1996) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle Of Life (2003) says his sequel to the bank-robbing-surfer-dudes movie Point Break, which also starred Keanu Reeves, will feature mostly fresh faces.

The movie is funded by RGM Entertainment, a production and talent management company based in Singapore, and the Media Development Authority.
