WASHINGTON (AFP) - - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will appear this weekend on the late-night television show which has made her mimic, comedian Tina Fey, a household name, a campaign official said Friday.

In recent weeks, millions of television viewers in the United States and Internet users around the globe have been treated to hilarious portrayals of Palin, who is governor of Alaska, on Saturday Night Live (SNL), a weekly comedy stalwart for NBC for more than 30 years.

In her impersonations, Fey has captured the folksy accent, turn of phrase, gestures and faux-pas that have become Palin's signature since she was thrust into the public arena six weeks ago with her surprise nomination as Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate.

The two women also have the darnedest physical resemblance, making the Fey-Palin character on SNL even more hilarious.

It was unclear if Fey would appear alongside Palin in the show, which is filmed in New York and airs live on Saturday, as its name implies.
