The woman at the sex-for-contracts trial of former Singapore Civil Defence Force(SCDF) chief Peter Lim Sin Pang was in an "intimate friendship" with her company's managing director when she had oral sex with Lim.
Former Nimrod Engineering general manager Angie Pang Chor Mui, 49, who took the stand for the first time yesterday on the sixth day of the trial, said she had been friends with her former boss, Mr Tamil Selvan, since 1996. But she said they became "close" from 2005.
Ms Pang said they had "cared for...and supported each other", and she had helped him through a tough time in his life then.
But she stressed that their relationship was non-sexual.
When asked why she performed oral sex on Lim, now 52, in May 2010 given this, the be-spectacled woman could not explain it and said that "one thing led to another".
"I like Sin Pang a lot. It was really unplanned and unexpected, there was no reason to it. It just happened," she said.
The prosecution later said that her relationship with Mr Selvan is "crucial" in explaining "why she did what she did".
Ms Pang said she first met Lim in 1996, after the SCD bought mass-decontamination machinese from securities-service provider Cisco.
Lim, then a major, was invited to attend an exercise in Norway and Ms Pang, who worked for Cisco then, took him and his colleague there.
They lost contact after her divorce in 1998 but re-stablished contact in May 2009, after she sent him a text message to congratulate him on his appointment as commissioner of SCDF.
They then met up for three lunches between May and December 2009.
She said that they chatted mostly about family, life and health.
She also "briefly" told him about Nimrod and its range of products, she said.
They also exchanged "playful" text messages, mostly to ask each other to "work less and rest more", she said.
"I always felt that he was so serious, so I'd ask him to relax, sometimes just to ruffle his feathers in a joking manner," she added.
On the evening of May 2, 2010, she picked up Lim in town, after he texted her to say he had been out drinking and needed a lift.
When they arrived at his Tanjong Rhu condominium, she said Lim asked if she was in a hurry and if they could chat.
She decided to drive farther up and parked alongside a road.
Soon after, they held hands and "started kissing and hugging and touching", before she finally performed oral sex on him, she said.
But they stopped when it dawned on her that they were in a public place.
They did not meet after that, but continued texting once every month.
Yesterday, the prosecution applied to cross-examine Ms Pang, due to "material inconsistencies" between her testimony yesterday and statements she gave to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau.
She will take the stand again today.
