I WAS shocked and saddened to see the terrible condition of foreign workers' dormitories in Tagore Industrial Avenue. I cannot believe that foreign workers are still being treated so horribly.

In the newspaper report, I noticed that one large bed was used to accommodate many workers.

When is all this going to change?

Are Singapore's laws and penalties a sufficient deterrent against the ill-treatment of foreign workers?

Is enforcement the issue?

These poor workers are being taken advantage of by agents and employers. They get into heavy debt by
having to pay large sums of money to come to Singapore, and have to work without a salary for many months to cover their debt.

It is a poor reflection on Singapore that agents and employers are allowed to take advantage of workers until an accident or death occurs.

I hope action will be taken immediately so that all foreign workers will have a better life and will receive more humane treatment.
