See MM's Malaysia visit as symbolic
Present and future generations should do their best to preserve and enhance ties between two countries. -myp
I READ with keen interest reports about Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's recent visit to Malaysia. His visit to Singapore's closest neighbour in a time like this is much welcomed by the leaders and citizens of both countries. Our relationship with Malaysia can be traced back to a time before Sir Stamford Raffles set foot in Singapore. Present and future generations should do their best to preserve and enhance ties between both countries. MM Lee and his delegation maintained a neutral position as they met and held fruitful discussions with the ruling Barisan Nasional leaders and opposition figures in the states of Kelantan, Penang and Selangor. I also welcome the news about the proposal by theMalaysian government for a third bridge, which would link Changi and the eastern coast of Malaysia. The third bridge could be used by tourists while the present Causeway and Second Link could continue to be used by regular commuters, workers, and goods vehicles. I hope that MM Lee's visit to Malaysia would be viewed as symbolic and as a signal of the Government's continued commitment to maintaining a good relationship with Malaysia. Mr Muhammad Dzul Azhan Haji Sahban
