BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej yesterday deplored the 'unreasonable'' attitude of the leaders of the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and reiterated that he would not resign under their pressure.

In his weekly radio address, he said he would continue with plans to travel to New York later this month to address the United Nations general assembly - even though former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra did that in 2006 only to have the army seize power in his absence.

As if to allay fears that such a thing may happen again, Mr Samak repeated that army chief general Anupong Paochinda had ruled out a military takeover.
