KUALA LUMPUR: Two businessmen close to Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi are quitting their positions, as an expected exodus of his inner circle begins.

The two men - New Straits Times Press (NSTP) deputy chairman Kalimullah Hassan and Equine Capital chairman Patrick Lim - have been attacked in the past by former premier Mahathir Mohamad, for allegedly benefiting from Mr Abdullah's reign.

News of their resignations from their respective companies comes just days after Mr Abdullah's announcement that he intended to step down as Premier in March.

No regrets, says Abdullah

KUALA LUMPUR: After announcing his decision to step down next March, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi said he has no regrets, but admitted not moving quickly enough to deliver on his reform promises.

He also said the biggest challenges facing his successor Najib Razak will be those of national unity and the economy.

Datuk Seri Abdullah had previously announced that he would step down only in 2010, but in recent weeks had faced increased pressure to do earlier.
