Over 50% jump in loan-shark arrests

210 nabbed in first six months of this year, but DPM Wong says more needs to be done. -ST

EFFORTS to rein in loan sharks are paying off, with more of them arrested this year than the year before.

Strict laws and enforcement have resulted in a nearly 10 per cent drop in the number of such cases reported, while the number of those caught rose by more than 50 per cent.

But more still needs to be done, said Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng.
