Demand for cleaners hit by lean times
Agencies not cutting rates yet even as more people do their own housework. -ST
By Seow Kai Lun BELT-TIGHTENING is getting Singaporeans to clean up after themselves. Agencies which supply ad hoc cleaning and gardening services have started to see demand drop in the past two months - a reversal of sorts after a June report that business was booming. The Straits Times spoke to 15 agencies, of which most say business has fallen by up to 15 per cent. They reckon it is a knee-jerk response to uncertainties amid the financial crisis.
