MUSLIMS in Singapore can continue to practise yoga - if and only if they are doing it solely for health reasons.

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore or Muis said yesterday in a statement that the practice of yoga by Muslims 'should not involve religious rituals beyond that taught in the Islamic faith, and should remain only a form of exercise'.

Muis said it had received media queries regarding its stand on yoga, an ancient form of exercise rooted in Hinduism, after a report titled 'Muslim leaders here say yoga is okay' was published in The Sunday Times nearly three weeks ago.
