Director James Gray wants Joaquin Phoenix, who said in October he was quitting acting, to return to work.

'I'll get him out of retirement, I've got to write a good part,' said Gray. 'I just think he hit a moment where he was bored.'

Gray, who helmed Phoenix's latest movie Two Lovers, said that at the end of making the film, the 34-year-old seemed exhausted. 'He really puts everything into the movie, he becomes that person,' he said.
