Cruise sector facing a spot of listlessness

Drop in passenger traffic reflects global downturn, but industry is unruffled. -ST

TOURISM officials cheered the arrival yesterday of a 700-passenger luxury cruise ship that will make its new seasonal home at HarbourFront.

The berthing of the Azamara Quest is one of the few bright spots in a disappointing year for Singapore's cruise industry.

Long a favourite port-of-call for the world's biggest lines, the sector has been struggling amid the current global economic meltdown.
