Rise in port dues for older tankers pushed back a year

THE environment is taking a back seat to the economy for the time being.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is delaying an increase in charges imposed on old bunker tankers by a year to help the industry get through tougher economic times.

The delay will help the owners of more than 100 bunker tankers, the MPA said yesterday. These vessels are used as floating fuel kiosks for other visiting vessels.
