KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Parliament erupted into chaos yesterday after newly sworn-in MP Nizar Jamaluddin and six opposition parliamentarians donned headbands and shouted slogans to protest against the Barisan Nasional (BN) takeover of Perak.

A 20-minute shouting match ensued as the Speaker ordered them to remove the black headbands and armbands, while BN MPs retaliated by shouting back. The seven opposition MPs were later suspended for two days.

Datuk Seri Nizar, who won the Bukit Gantang seat in Perak in April, had just been sworn in when he put on a black songkok with the words 'Bubar DUN' and shouted 'hidup rakyat! bubar dewan!' while raising his left fist.
