THE National Council of Social Service will relinquish its watchdog role over social service charities here from January.

This role will be passed to the Charities Unit under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), leaving the NCSS to concentrate on its job of building up the social service sector and helping its members improve their services and standards.

The move follows NCSS member organisations' confusion over the council's 'real role'.
